[Class 43] [Also in Group XXV] A jewel to replace the ordinary operating tab of sliding fasteners comprises a mount or frame,.preferably ornamented or bearing precious stones, inside which is fitted a pair of jaws which can be opened or closed by suitable mechanism to release or grasp the operating slider of the fastener. In one form, Figs. 2 and 4, the jaws 8 are rotated on pivots 6 by nuts 10 on a right- and left-handed screw 11 turned by a milled roller 13 which projects either on both faces, or on the underface only of the jewel. A U-shaped lever 16 engages with the roller 13 to lock it in position. The levers may also be of the tong type, as shown in Fig. 7. In an alternative form, Fig. 10, one jaw 22 is fixed and the other jaw 23 is adjusted by means of a lever 25, movable by hand over a rack with teeth 28, 29, 30, and kept in engagement with the appropriate tooth by a locking bar 32 pivoting about a pin 31. |
