PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a derivative of a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon such as alkyl-substituted indene or fluorene, which, even when the derivative has an alkyl substituent, has the reaction yield higher than that of the conventional coupling reaction and the reaction time shorter than that thereof and is useful as a raw material to be used when a metallocene complex is produced.SOLUTION: In the method for producing the derivative of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, an indene compound (A-1) or a fluorene compound (A-2) is reacted with a specific alkyl group-substituted boron compound (B) to produce a specific alkyl-substituted indene derivative or a specific alkyl-substituted fluorene derivative. A specific phosphorus compound (D) and a palladium catalyst (D) are used as a reaction catalyst, and the reaction is performed in the presence of a fluoride inorganic base (E). |
