The present invention relates to a process for recovering succinic acid from a fermentation broth containing succinic acid salt, said process comprising the steps of passing a fermentation broth containing succinic acid salt through a basic ion exchange resin at a volume that is below the level required to saturate said resin, splitting said salt on the surface of said resin and recovering succinic acid from the resin.
