<p>Abstract The invention provides a module (1) for treating effluent (2) from a tank (3). The module (1) comprises a first chamber (4) comprising a first inlet (7) for receiving said effluent (2) from said tank (3), an electrolytic cell (8) for generating an electrolytic reaction to remove contaminant particles (9) from said effluent and produce a treated effluent (10), and a first outlet (11) for transferring said treated effluent from said first chamber; and a second chamber (5) comprising a second inlet (12) for receiving said treated effluent from said first chamber, wherein sludge (13) is permitted to settle out of said treated effluent to produce clarified liquid (14), and a second outlet (15) for discharging said clarified liquid.
