PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device and a projector which can be thinned and allow downsizing with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: A light source device includes: a solid light-emitting element 14 emitting light; a reflection polarizer 12 transmitting one polarization component of the light therethrough and reflecting the other polarization component; and a retardation plate 13 arranged on an optical path between the solid light-emitting element 14 and the reflection polarizer 12. The solid light-emitting element 14 reflects light reflected on the reflection polarizer 12 and penetrating the retardation plate 13.
