PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide advanced epoxy resins based on alicyclic epoxy resins of high purity, which provide cured coatings having improved flexibility and low total chlorine content.SOLUTION: The invention provides advanced epoxy resins comprising the reaction product of an epoxy resin comprising a diglycidyl ether of the specified formula, and at least one difunctional compound selected from an aromatic diol and a dicarboxylic acid.
