[Class 4] A parachute formed of panels having their greatest width adjacent the skirt of the canopy is provided with means for limiting expansion of the canopy due to shock loads, consisting of a flexible line 16 extending around the interior of the canopy and attached thereto at spaced points around its circumference. The length of the line 16 is shorter than the expanded circumference of the canopy base, whereby expansion of the parachute during shock loading is limited to a diameter substantially equal to that which it would assume under conditions of normal descent if the restricting line were not present The line 16 may be stitched to either or both the suspension lines 12 and canopy fabric 4, or it may be passed loosely through the fabric adjacent the suspension lines, so as to be capable of slipping relative to the latter. The outer portions 20 of the fabric bulge outwardly and minimise air spilling in a strong wind. |
