PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus adjustment device that sets a focus detection area in accordance with a change in an image magnification by a movement of a focus lens upon a focus adjustment, and enables a highly accurate focus adjustment.SOLUTION: A focus adjustment device has an imaging section causing an optical image by an optical system inclusive of a focus lens to be focused on an image pickup element and photographing the optical image to generate an image signal, and adjusts a focus on the basis of a focus detection signal relating to a focus detection area set in an imaging area. The focus adjustment device acquires information relating to a change in an image magnification of the optical system accompanied by a movement of the focus lens (S21), detects a position of the focus lens (S27 and S29), and sets a focus detection area on the basis of the position of the focus lens and the information relating to the change in the image magnification (S31 to S39). |
