The device has cladding elements (7, 7') designed to be expanded by filling with gas in a volume chamber (1) such that openings (8) of the cladding elements are enlarged during expanding the cladding elements, and content (12) e.g. nitrogen gas and silicate, of the cladding elements is outputted into the volume chamber by the enlarged openings. A battery (2) is arranged in the volume chamber. Gas generators fill the cladding elements with the gas during reception of a trigger signal. The gas generators are provided with an ignition device and a unit to be ignited. An independent claim is also included for a method for providing safety measures during gas release from a battery for a vehicle.
