In a fluorescent electric lighting fitting comprising a reflector 3 and a box 1 secured thereto and housing control means for the fluorescent tube, the box has apertures at opposite ends for the entry and exit of a cable 5 and also houses clamping means to which a catenary or reinforcing core 8 of the cable is secured and connectors for connecting the conductors of the cable to the fitting. The clamping means comprises two flat plates 21, 22 through which a stud 11 passes freely. The lower plate 22 rests against a transverse member 13 secured to the end of the stud and the upper plate 21 is forced downwardly by a nut 23 on the stud. The reinforcing core is formed into a V-bight between the plates by means of wings 25 on the ends of the upper plate 21 and a peg extending from the upper plate through a hole in the lower plate. The stud 11 also serves to support the entire fitting and for this purpose its upper end is hooked and the transverse member 13 on its lower end is adapted to engage removably under lateral extensions in a member 15 extending centrally across the box 1. The box is closed by a cover 2 having a hole through which the stud 11 extends, a nut 19 on the stud clamping the cover to the box. The cable entry and exit eomprise spouts 9, 10 formed on the joint line of the box and cover. The Provisional Specification describes a construction in which the stud extends through an aperture in the floor of the box and is secured thereto by clamping nuts and the clamping plates are disposed between a pair of clamping nuts on the stud.
