PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deodorized and stabilized edible marine product oil available in e.g. functional foods containing long-chain unsaturated fatty acids.SOLUTION: A method of preparing a deodorized and stabilized marine product oil containing a polycarboxylic long-chain unsaturated fatty acid(s) comprises the steps of: subjecting a marine product oil to counter current steam distillation (CCSD) in a thin film column including a regular filler; and optionally adding an antioxidant to the resultant edible marine product oil. The marine product oil is subjected to CCSD in the presence of a herb extract deodorant consisting of rosemary and/or sage extract, and the antioxidant contains ascorbyl palmitate and/or tocopherol and optionally citric acid. CCSD is preferably carried out under a reduced pressure of 0.1-10 hPa, more preferably 0.5-10 hPa and most preferably 1-5 hPa. The marine product oil after the treatments is added to foods, animal feed, cosmetics, drugs, etc. |
