A method of manufacturing micro-porous screens comprises subjecting a pulverulent mixture consisting of a binder material, e.g. a synthetic resin, a dry absorbent material which is porous by nature, e.g. dehydrated silica gel, wood meal or pumice powder, and which may also include a loading agent and a plasticiser, to a moderate compression in a mould to produce cohesion of the mixture so as to permit of extraction from the mould while preserving the initial porosity and subjecting the moulded mixture to a temperature of 120-180 DEG C. to provide mechanical strength in the screens. In an Example 20 parts of vinyl chloride, 10 parts of powdered silica gel, 4 parts of tricresyl phosphate and 3 parts of talc are mixed, molded and pre-compressed to obtain a two-thirds reduction in volume, then the screen obtained is heated in the open air at 175 DEG C. for five minutes. |
