According to an embodiment of the present invention, provided is a mandrel coil box operation method capable of minimizing the delay of a work and increasing productivity by reducing time for moving a coil to a coiling position to be coiled after uncoiling the coil in a mandrel coil box. The mandrel coil box operation method provided to convert the position of first and second mandrels between the coiling position for coiling a slab and an uncoiling position for uncoiling the coiled slab comprises a first preparing step of positioning the first and second mandrels in the coiling and uncoiling positions, respectively; a working step of coiling the slab supplied to the first mandrel and uncoiling the slab coiled on the second mandrel; a pre-conversion step of moving the first and second mandrel to convert the position of the first and second mandrels in a process where the slab is coiled on the first mandrel or is uncoiled from the second mandrel; and a second preparing step of positioning the first and second mandrels on the uncoiling and coiling positions, respectively, by completing the position conversion of the first and second mandrels when the process of the slab is coiled on or uncoiled from the first or second mandrel.
