The present invention is disclosed to improve a method to calculate an optimal mode gain by applying a gearbox efficiency value when the optimal mode gain of a variable speed wind turbine is calculated. Also, the present invention is disclosed to increase the efficiency of a wind turbine by controlling the wind turbine with a generator torque calculated in accordance to the improved method to calculate the optimal mode gain.
