<p>779,967. Gas burners. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, June 27. 1955, No. 18482/55. Class 75(1) . A burner of the annulus type for mixing gaseous hydrocarbons such as natural gas or methane and oxygen enriched air or relatively pure oxygen for their partial combustion to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide in which the discharge outlets are cooled and are maintained in the same relative positions regardless of expansion of the burner elements on heating comprises a cylindrical inner body 3 having a central duct 3 terminating in an outlet 8, a cylindrical outer body 4 supported coaxially with the body 3 to define an annular duct 6 therebetween terminating in an outlet 9, by rigid webs 16, 16<SP>1</SP> spaced from the outlets 8, 9, the bodies 3 and 4 having cooling liquid channels 21, 26 of uniform restricted cross-section encircling the outlets 8 and 9 respectively, and passage ways 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 27 connecting the channels 21, 26 in series between inlet and outlet pipes 17, 28 for the supply of cooling liquid to the channels. The burner body 4 is shown installed in the floor 29 of a furnace and supporting a supply manifold 14 through a conduit 13 to supply one gas to the annular duct 6, while an inner conduit 12 to supply another gas to the central duct 5 is supported from the body 3 by a conduit 11 so as to be in floating relationship with conduit 14. The bodies 3, 4 may be cast of "Inconel" (Registered Trade Mark) an alloy steel containing 13 per cent chromium, 79.5 per cent nickel and 6.5 per cent iron. The conduit 11 and pipe 12 are of alloy steel containing 18 per cent chromium and 8 per cent nicked and having a high coefficient of expansion. While the pipes 13, 14 are of chromium steel containing 6-8 per cent chromium and having a low coefficient of expansion.</p> |
