The method involves initiating the feeding of wastewater to be treated to a container to be purified through an inlet (120) in a flow chamber (111). The waste water is filtered through a filtration device (200) having a movable filtering surface (210). The solid fraction contained in the waste water is deposited on upper side (212) of the filter surface of the filtration unit. The directed flow of fluid is performed in the filtrate space (112) of bottom (211) of the filter surface of the filtration device. An independent claim is included for a device for mechanical separation of solids from wastewater.
