PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having little viewing angle dependence.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal panel comprising a first substrate having a first vertical alignment layer, a second substrate having a second vertical alignment layer, a liquid crystal layer having negative dielectric anisotropy, a first polarizing plate, and a second polarizing plate; an illumination device; and a light-controlling member 9 disposed on a light-exiting side of the liquid crystal panel 2. The light-controlling member controls an exiting direction of light exiting from the liquid crystal panel by anisotropically diffusing the light in azimuthal directions observed from a normal direction of the liquid crystal panel. A pixel arranged in the liquid crystal panel includes: a first region where a director of liquid crystal molecules in a center part in a thickness direction of the liquid crystal layer is in a first orientation and in a first direction while a voltage is applied; and a second region where the director of the liquid crystal molecules in the center part in the thickness direction of the liquid crystal layer is in the first orientation and in a second direction opposite to the first direction while a voltage is applied. An azimuthal direction where the light-diffusing property of the light-controlling member is relatively intense approximately coincides with the first orientation. |
