The present invention relates to an electronic device and a control method thereof. The electronic device includes an infra-red ray module which receives an infra-red ray control signal of a preset range specific waveform from an infra-red ray transmitter; a switching part which makes the infra-red ray module on/off; and a control part which control the switching part to repeat the on/off of the infra-red ray module with a preset period in order to recognize the preset range specific waveform of the infra-red ray control signal. Therefore, the power consumption of the infra-red ray module in standby mode can be reduced while receiving the signal of the existing infra-red ray transmitter in the same mode. |
