The device (1) has a compressor (2) drivable by a turbine and/or an electrical driving apparatus (9), and a torso housing (6) for receiving a coupling shaft (4), which is in operative connection with a compressor running wheel ( 3) of the compressor. The compressor compresses fluid i.e. fresh air, supplied by a fluid channel (12). The fluid channel is formed by a fluid guide passage (13) present in the housing, and the wheel is arranged such that a fluid entrance side (18) of the wheel is turned toward the passage running through the housing.
