PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device and a vehicle control method that can perform travel control so that when a hybrid vehicle reaches a destination, the amount of charge of a battery substantially reaches a lower-limit value.SOLUTION: A vehicle control device includes: travel energy acquiring means of searching for a change route from a branch point at a periphery of a route deviation branch point where a route deviation is made with high possibility to a destination point when there is the route deviation branch point in a route from a starting point to the destination point and acquiring first travel energy needed for travelling in a route from the route deviation branch point to the destination point and second travel energy needed for travelling in the change route from the branch point at the periphery to the destination point; and used electric energy setting means of setting the used electric energy of a battery used for travelling to the branch point at the periphery larger than set used electric energy set for the first travel energy when it is determined that the second travel energy is smaller than the first travel energy. |
