A recycling plant features a size reducing means 2,7 such as a shredder 2,7 a separation means, or plurality of different separating means 3-6,8,9,11 and a local ventilation exhaust system 21,22,23 for one or more of the processing steps, featuring a mercury abatement means 23. The mercury abatement means 23, may feature a carbon and sulphur based filter arrangement to absorb the mercury vapour. The ventilation system 21,22,23 may be applied to multiple steps in the process 2-11. The plant may output to multiple groups of material 12,15,16,17,19. A corresponding method claim describes normal operation of the plant. The arrangement may be primarily aimed at the improved recycling processing of flat screen displays which commonly feature an array of mercury containing backlights, replacing slower manual methods. |
