A dye-receptive composition comprises a linear hydrophobic polymer in which there is incorporated between 2 and 15% of the total polymer of a cross-linked water-insoluble copolymer of (A) 2-98% of an N-vinyl heterocyclic monomer and (B) 98-2% of a polyfunctional monomer containing at least two functional, polymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated groups and which is copolymerizable with the heterocyclic monomer. The N-vinyl heterocyclic monomer is either (1) an N-vinyl-3-morpholine of formula <FORM:0916244/IV(a)/1> where each X is hydrogen, an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or an aryl radical of 6 to 10 carbon atoms or (2) N-vinyl-2-oxazolidinone of formula <FORM:0916244/IV(a)/2> where X is as above. Details of the preparation of the insoluble polymer are given in Specification 916,243. The linear polymer may be a polyamide, e.g. the condensation product of hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid, polyesters, e.g. the condensation product of terephthalic acid and ethylene and like glycols), polyethylene, polypropylene and polyacrylonitrile. The polymers may be incorporated by ball-milling in solvents including aqueous solutions of zinc chloride (for polyacrylonitrile) extruded and dyed.
