<p>A composition for use in detecting an analyte in a sample by co!orimetric readout comprising a polymer and chromophores contained in the polymer, wherein said chromophores are capable of undergoing a color change when the composition is contacted with an analyte, thereby providing detection of the analyte by coiorimetric readout.
