The scanner (10) has a light transmitter (12) for transmitting a polarized transmitted light beam (14) into a monitored zone (19). A light receiver (24) detects polarization components of a light (20) reflected in the zone, where the polarization components are orthogonal and parallel to a polarization direction of the transmitted beam, respectively. The receiver generates two receiving signals corresponding to the orthogonal and parallel polarization components. An evaluation unit (32) evaluates two time curves of the received signals of the orthogonal and parallel polarization components. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting objects in a monitored zone. |
