A polyimide-silica composite porous body characterized in that spherical silica particles each having a particle diameter of 200 nm or less are dispersed in a porous polyimide. A method for producing a polyimide-silica composite porous body, said method being characterized by comprising: dissolving carbon dioxide in a mixed solution having a polyimide resin precursor and a silicon alkoxide or a derivative thereof dissolved therein; then carrying out a sol-gel reaction by hydrolyzing the silicon alkoxide; then removing a solvent and carbon dioxide from the mixed solution, thereby forming voids in the polyimide resin precursor; and then imidizing the polyimide resin precursor.
