摘要 The present invention relates to an apparatus for recognizing a note type using a terahertz electromagnetic wave, and a method thereof. The apparatus of the present invention includes a terahertz radiating unit which radiates a terahertz electromagnetic wave to a note; a penetrated wave detecting unit which generates an electrical signal by detecting the terahertz electromagnetic wave penetrating the note; and a control unit which generates a transmission image based on the electrical signal inputted from the penetrated wave detecting unit and determines the type of the note by using the transmission image. The apparatus of present invention is able to easily and accurately determine the type of a note because a clear transmission image in which the front side and rear side of the bill are overlapped can be generated by radiating the terahertz electromagnetic wave having high penetrating power to the note, and is also able to reduce calculation time for determining the note type because the pattern of an interest area is extracted from the transmission image and compared with a master pattern.
