The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of UV-treated rice (Oryza sativa L. spp japonica cv. Dongjin) as an active ingredient for preventing or treating colon cancer and, more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating colon cancer and a health functional food for preventing or ameliorating colon cancer, wherein each of the compositions contain, as an active ingredient, an extract or fraction of UV-treated rice, or N-benzoyltryptamine or sakuranetin isolated therefrom. The extract or fraction of rice of the present invention is derived from a natural product and thus has no side effects, and can suppress the growth of colon cancer cells through N-benzoyltryptamine or sakuranetin generated by treating the rice with UV and thus can be utilized for the development of agents for preventing or treating colon cancer. |
