An escalator monitoring apparatus is provided in an escalator arrangement structure having a protection unit disposed in a narrow-angle portion of an escalator to prevent passengers from getting caught in the narrow-angle portion. The escalator monitoring apparatus has a camera to be received in a cylinder of the protection unit, and a support member for supporting the camera on a vertical line from a central portion of the cylinder. The escalator monitoring apparatus includes a camera mounting plate and a U-shaped mounting member. The camera mounting plate has a predetermined-diameter hole in its central portion and mounting holes disposed at predetermined angle intervals and on a circumference with a predetermined radius from the center. The mounting member has predetermined-length footportions provided erectly to be opposed to each other around the predetermined-diameter hole. A camera support portion is provided in a central portion of a horizontal plane with the camera mounting plate in the mounting member. Thus, it is possible to provide an escalator monitoring apparatus in which a camera for taking pictures about how passengers are riding on an escalator can be placed, removed or adjusted easily and which gives no sense of illness to the passengers.
