The invention provides a method and a device for inspecting a crack of a rectangular plate object, which are employed to inspect whether a glass plate has a crack. The inspection method is to check a crack of a glass substrate by means of a cutting machine with a cutter, wherein the cutter comes into contact with one end face of the glass plate which is used as a cutting break-off object and moves from the one end face toward the other end face on the opposite side thereof, and simultaneously cuts out a cut mark as a starting point of cutting break-off on the surface of the glass plate, and then is separated from the surface and the other end face when arriving at the other end face; and the method comprises: a step of detecting whether the cutter is in contact with one end face of the glass substrate; detecting the position of the cutter at a moment when the cutter is in contact with the one end face of the glass substrate and regarding the position as the position of one end face of the glass substrate; a step of comparing the detected position of one end face of the glass substrate with a predetermined set range; and a step of determining whether a crack is formed in the detected one end face of the glass substrate based on the result of the comparison. |
