Novel bis-(1-phenylpyrazolines) of the formula in which X is -NH 2 or -OH, R 1 and R 2 are methyl, R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy, and Z is -O-, -OCH 2 CHO-, ethylene or cyclohexylidene, are prepared by condensing two mols of cyanoacetone, cyanoacetone-imine or acetoacetic acid ethyl ester with a bis-hydrazine of the formula preferably in dilute aqueous acid. Examples are provided of compounds of each value of X and Z in which R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are hydrogen, chlorine or methyl.
