The device has a reservoir (8) for a liquid (12), and an electronically controlled metering pump (21) for conveying the liquid into an exhaust gas passage (60) of an internal combustion engine. An atomizer (30) atomizes the liquid introduced into the exhaust gas passage, where an opening of the atomizer opens into the exhaust gas passage. The atomizer includes a piezoelectric actuator (45) for generating ultrasonic vibrations, and a surface (33) facing the exhaust gas passage, where the surface is vibrated by the ultrasonic vibrations. An independent claim is also included for an exhaust gas after-treatment device for an internal combustion engine.
