The device has a camera including an image sensor and color filters for pixels of the image sensor in filter primary colors that are selected from red color (R), green color (G) and blue color (B). An illumination source creates monochrome light of the primary colors, and the camera and source are formed and arranged in such a manner that the camera detects a signal of the monochrome light, with which disk illuminates the source. The camera is arranged behind the disk and focused on a remote region, which lies before the disk. Color filters are arranged in a Bayer pattern. An independent claim is also included for a method for recognizing rain.
