1304494 Conjugate polyamide filaments TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 23 Sept 1971 [30 Sept 1970] 44379/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Conjugate side-by-side or eccentric coresheath filaments are prepared by melt spinning (A) a homopolyamide, preferably nylon 6 or nylon 66 and (B) a copolyamide prepared by copolymerization of #-caprolactam and a salt of hexamethylene diamine and hexahydroterephthalic acid in conjugate relationship. The conjugate filament preferably comprises 30 to 70% by weight of homopolyamide (A) and 70 to 30% copolyamide (B), and the copolyamide (B) preferably comprises 80 to 92% by weight #-caprolactam unitsand 20 to 8% by weight of units of the amine-acid salt. The melt-spun filaments are preferably drawn until the birefringence of the copolyamide component (B) lies in the range 35 Î 10<SP>-3</SP> to 55 Î 10<SP>-3</SP> and the drawn filaments are then heat set at a temperature of from 120‹ to 190‹ C. and may be further heat treated in a relaxed state before being wound into a package. Examples relate to the spinning, drawing and heat setting of conjugate nylon 6 to 66 copolyamide filaments and to the knitting of yarns produced there- from into stockings. |
