PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat plate type polarizer that obtains a satisfactory extinction ratio for straight polarization light with respect to light of wide-band wavelength and has a characteristic in that an incident angle has a wide permissible range.SOLUTION: A flat plate type wide-band polarizer is formed such that a transparent flat plate on which a transparent film is formed is set to a specific incident angle with respect to the main optical axis of an incident light beam, thereby changing it to a straight polarization. In such a flat plate type polarizer, substrates whose number is at least two but not greater than 20 are arranged parallel with one another with spaces among them, each substrate being formed from a transparent flat plate and having on its one or both sides a single layer film of a substance with a refractive index greater than that of the substrate. |
