The method involves injecting fuel into a combustion chamber (14) within an operating period using a first fuel injector (20a) and a second fuel injector (20b), where the first fuel injector injects greater amount of fuel than the second fuel injector in an adaptation mode. Control duration for the second injector is gradually increased from zero or decreased toward zero. Difference between nominal lambda value and actual lambda value determined in the adaptation mode enables determining fuel quantity that is injected by the second injector during the control duration. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for operating a combustion engine (2) a control and/or regulating device.
