PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve discharge start delay during blackout of a cold-cathode discharge lamp. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device has the cold-cathode discharge lamp 1 and an auxiliary light source 6, irradiating the cold-cathode discharge lamp 1 with light. In this case, the auxiliary light source 6 irradiates a part on the high-voltage side of the cold-cathode discharge lamp 1 with light. A light source, emitting light having a short wavelength in particular, a light source which emits light including a wavelength <=520 nm, for instance, a blue LED is used for the auxiliary light source 6. A conductive reflecting plate 5 is disposed near the cold-cathode discharge lamp 1, the reflecting plate 5 is grounded, and a projection 7, having the same potential as that of the reflecting plate 5, is projected on the reflecting plate 5 by facing it to the cold-cathode discharge lamp 1. |
