<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cursor movement device mountable on a portable terminal device that can facilitate an operator's intended operation of cursor movement. <P>SOLUTION: A touchpad has, around an area for stopping a cursor (stop area), areas arranged for the moving speed of the cursor increasing with separation from the stop area. Position information about a contact point on the touchpad is sequentially detected. An area property storage means storing area ranges, cursor moving directions and cursor moving speeds is referred to for the area matching the position information and for the moving direction and moving speed corresponding to the matching area, and the acquired moving direction and moving speed are output to an external device.
