PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition which can give a liquid crystal display element having a high transmission rate.SOLUTION: A ferroelectric liquid crystal composition contains: a specific chiral compound contributing to impact resistance; and phenylpyrimidine compounds C, as non chiral compounds, represented by general formula (3). In the composition, the amount of the phenylpyrimidine compounds C contained is at least 10 mass% and at most 95 mass%, and all the phenylpyrimidine compounds C are the compounds represented by formula (3) where m=8 and n=8-12. (In formula (3), Pand Peach represents a hydrogen atom and a fluorine atom. Qand Qeach independently a single bond or an ether bond. Here, at least one of Qand Qis an ether bond, and m and n represent integers). |
