<p>383,366. Road surface markings; changing signs. SAMPSON, F., Ferndale, Manor Road, Sutton Coldfield. Oct. 2, 1931, No. 27435. [Classes 3 (i) and 3 (ii).] A road surface sign comprises a plurality of ribs 1 having parts of characters formed on the sides thereof, so that according as to whether the sign is viewed from the directions 6 or 7, legends are seen which are formed of the markings on the sets of faces 8 or 9 respectively. In the form shown, the ribs 1 are assembled in a frame 2 embedded in the road surface, and are secured therein by wedges 4 inserted through apertures 5, the edges of which are then burred over. Alternatively, the ribs may be individually embedded in the road surface, or mav be formed of rows of studs. The ribs may be of aluminium with inlaid brass markings, or the markings may be formed when the ribs are cast, and subsequently polished ; in a further modification the markings are formed by chemical or electrolytic deposition, such as by forming the ribs of iron, applying a suitable masking substance, and dipping in copper sulphate solution.</p> |
