401,989. Hydraulic-seal safety apparatus. MAGNAVOX (GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd., 89, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Barrett, J. J. ; 914, Kensington Boulevard, Fort Wayne, Indiana, U.S.A.) May 29, 1933, No. 15452. Convention date, May 28, 1932. [Class 135.] The container of an electrolytic condenser is provided with means directly responsive to overheating of the condenser for relieving excess pressure. In one form, Fig. 2, a conical pocket 15, pressed in the end of the container 10, is apertured at 16 and filled with fusible material 17, e.g. soft solder or pitch. On overheating of the condenser, the material 17 melts, and the pressure within the container is relieved through the vent 16. On cooling, the material 17 solidifies and recloses the vent. In a modification, designed to prevent ejection of the material from the pocket, the latter is of semi-conical shape, any air or gas expelled from the container being directed along the straight side of the pocket. In another form, Fig. 4, the pocket 21 is hemispherical, the vent 22 being placed to one side. In a further modification, the pocket is formed with a reentrant conical portion, at the top of which the vent is placed.
