PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine capable of suppressing the vibration of a drum to a minimum when passing a resonance rotation speed.SOLUTION: A drum type washing machine includes: a bottomed cylindrical drum 3 which is rotatably supported by a horizontal shaft or an inclined rotation shaft; a water tank 2 which accommodates the drum 3; vibration detection means 12 which detects the vibration of the water tank 2; an annular container 17 which is installed at the front face side of the drum 3; balls 8 which are movable in the annular container 17; a drive motor 4 which rotationally drives the drum 3; and control means 6 which controls the drive motor 4 and the like. The control means 6 determines an imbalance amount of laundry in the drum 3 by the vibration detection means 12 and determines how to start the drum 3 up to a resonance rotation speed on the basis of the determined imbalance amount.
