A barrier paper packaging material which comprises a paper base and, formed thereon, a plurality of coating layers comprising a water-vapor-barrier layer and a gas-barrier layer formed on the water-vapor-barrier layer, wherein the coating layers are coating layers each formed using as a binder resin either a water-soluble polymer or a polymer suspendable in water. The barrier paper packaging material combines excellent gas-barrier properties with excellent water-vapor-barrier properties.
