PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for correcting errors in a memory are provided to improve performance by obtaining reliability information which is similar to a soft decision value without an additional memory chip. CONSTITUTION: A memory core includes a plurality of memory cells. A control unit(100) determines whether to require additional information to determine errors in data read from a specific memory cell among a plurality of memory cells. A first input and output unit(200) receives the required additional information from the memory core. A processing unit(500) extracts reliability information of the data from the additional information. A second input and output unit(600) receives and outputs the reliability information from the processing unit.
