This cooling device (1) for a high temperature superconducting apparatus is provided with: a turbo compressor (2); a main heat exchanger (3); an expansion turbine (4); a sub heat exchanger (5) for exchanging heat between a refrigerant gas and a cooling fluid; a circulation pump (7); a temperature measuring means (10) for measuring the temperature of the cooling fluid; a first closed flow path (L1); and a second closed flow path (L2) for circulating the cooling fluid, and the sub heat exchanger (5) comprises a first heat exchange part (5a) which has paths through which the refrigerant gases flow in parallel and in which the refrigerant gases exchange heat with each other, and a second heat exchange part (5b) in which the refrigerant gas and the cooling fluid exchange heat so as to face each other.
