A storage system including a virtual machine and hierarchical storage is provided with: a management unit for managing an association between an instance of the virtual machine and the hierarchical storage; and a controller for coordinating and controlling the operational control of the virtual machine and the staging control between the hierarchical storage on the basis of the association managed by the management unit.
