The device (1) has a radioactive radiation source (3) and a shielding unit (4) arranged at a proximal end region of a medical catheter (2). Two detector elements (5, 5') are arranged along a catheter longitudinal axis (50) of the proximal end region of the medical catheter. The shielding unit is designed such that a radiation (20) of the source not directly strikes on the detector elements. The detector elements detect a backscattered radiation (22) of the source in an energy-resolved manner, and provide data to a computing and control unit, which computes a three-dimensional image data set. The radioactive radiation source is a position sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for imaging a hollow organ.
