CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery is denoted by chemical formula 1: Li_(1+alpha)&lsqb;M_gammaFe_(1-beta)Mn_beta&rsqb;O_2 or chemical formula 2: (1-x)Li_2MnO_3-xLi&lsqb;M_zFe_(1-y)Mn_y&rsqb;O_2. In the chemical formula 1, M is one compound selected from Ni, Mg, Cu, Co, Al, Nb, Ti, and V, and alpha, beta, and gamma satisfy 0.1<=alpha<=0.9, 0.1<=beta<=0.9, and 0<=gamma<=0.9. In the chemical formula 2, M is one compound selected from Ni, Mg, Cu, Co, Al, Nb, Ti, and V, and x, y, and z satisfy 0.1<=x<=0.9, 0.1<=y<=0.9, and 0<=z<=0.9.
