A screen (1) is provided with microcapsules (11) and substrates (2). The microcapsules (11) have an encapsulated liquid (16) inside a capsule membrane (12). The microcapsules (11) are arranged in a plane on the substrates (2). The encapsulated liquid (16) have light-diffusing particles (15) for scattering light, and a dispersion medium (13) for dispersing the light-diffusing particles (15). In a cross-section of a microcapsule (11) projected in the direction perpendicular to the surface of a substrate (2) on which the microcapsules (11) are arranged in a plane, the ratio of the area of the encapsulated region to the area of the microcapsule (11) is in the range of 0.9025 to 0.990.
