A grinding assembly comprises a holder arrangement 12A, 12B for material to be ground and a grinder 14A, 14B comprising first and second grinding portions for grinding the material. The first grinding portion is movable relative to the second grinding portion. The grinding assembly further includes an operative arrangement 16 on the holder arrangement to operate the grinder. The operative arrangement comprises an outwardly extending member 52 extending from the central portion of the grinding assembly and operatively connected to the first grinding portion, for example via planetary gears (figure 4, not shown). In use, the user places his palms against the outwardly extending member 52 and moves his palms in opposite directions to rotate the holder arrangement 12A, 12B relative to the operative arrangement. This in turn rotates the grinding portions. Rollers 54 are provided on the outwardly extending members 52 to assist in this.
