A collapsible stringed musical instrument, such as an electric guitar, comprises a pivoted neck, capable of rotating through an axis in relation to the body of the instrument. A protrusion on one of the neck or body makes contact with a stop on the other of the neck or body to secure the instrument in the playing position. The tension of the instrument strings maintains the instrument in the deployed, playing position. Preferably, the neck swivels in a plane which is parallel to the body of the instrument, such that the neck lies across the front of the body at an angle when in the stowed position. The neck is preferably secured in a desired position relative to the body of the instrument, by a locking mechanism. The instrument may be used when travelling on aeroplanes or other modes of transport when space restrictions apply. |
